Typing Faster Leads To Writing Faster!

Type FasterTyping speed is something most of us haven’t worried about since computer class in school, but it’s a vital component of learning to write faster, because ultimately nothing else you do is going to matter until you’re able to get the words onto the page as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Not only is it important to improve your overall typing speed, but also your accuracy. Stopping every word or two to make corrections can be jarring to the thought process, and can severely hamper your efforts.

Technically, it’s recommended that when you’re writing you do NOT stop to make corrections, instead making them during the editing process once the first draft is finished, but if you’re like me, you tend to self-edit as you go and it’s difficult to get away from that.

It WILL improve your writing speed if you can train yourself to edit later, but until then, improving the accuracy of your typing is key.

There are a lot of free typing tutor programs out there if you just search Google for “typing tutor for adults” without the quotes. What works for me might not work for you, so you should try a few to see which one you prefer. Just try to find one that you find fun, because you’ll be a lot more likely to stick with it.

The average person can only type about 40 words per minute, but with practice you can type up to 65-75 words per minute, which will almost double the average output! Some can learn to type faster!

Please don’t think that worrying about your typing speed isn’t going to make enough of a difference to matter. Trust me, it matters a lot. If you improve your typing speed, you WILL see an increase in your writing output!

Be sure to practice every day so you don’t get rusty!

In my next post we are going to take a look at some methods of doing research quickly, so don’t miss it! Research is one of the biggest time sucks in writing, so learning to type faster is vital!
