Just like marketing in the physical world, Internet Marketing encompasses a very wide spectrum with many options and avenues to explore in order to promote a web site. Before even starting to market a web site, several elements must be explored and analyzed before hand in order to fully understand what it is to be marketed and how best to do it. This post will briefly cover some of these elements and create a foundation from which an Internet marketing campaign can be built.

1. An analysis of the services or products which the web site will offer should be made. This includes describing those services or products involved, figuring out unique selling propositions and what the benefits to the customers will be. A SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) should also be made at this point.

This will form a strong understanding of what the entire site will be about and how it can be promoted.

2. Analyze the market to see what the competitors are doing, what the current market is like and if there are any opportunities in the future and how to capitalize on them.

3. Try and adopt different personas so that you can understand how customers will perceive the site and business. Try to create four or five different demographic profiles and see how each would benefit from using your web site. Doing this enhances your ability to sell to your customers as well as trying to provide a good user experience for them so they will come back. It also will hone your Internet Marketing skills.

4. Now we start getting into internet marketing itself. Keyword research is the next stage, and your campaign should focus on initially trying to get twenty or so good keywords down. The primary keyword phrase should be focused on the home page of the site itself, while the rest will make up keywords for site content and other marketing strategies. The ideal is to find keywords with high use, but with minimal competition from other sites.

5. Next, focus on what marketing strategies to use and how to implement them. The keywords found can form the basis of paid promotions like PPC (Pay Per Click), or organic listings via SEO (Search Engine Optimization), or use of social media (like Facebook and Twitter). The keyword phrases found can also form the back bone to other off-page marketing in the form of article writing and submissions designed to attract traffic and back linking.

Create a blog where you can give tips and solutions to problems, while at the same time promoting the service or product specified on your business web site.

6. Other marketing methods to bring targeted traffic to your site include newsletters, email marketing, affiliate marketing, video marketing, forum replies (leaving back links in signatures), and listing the business on Google Places, Yahoo and Bing equivalents.

7. Of course, there are traditional means of promoting your site and business via business cards, letter heads, local sponsorships, newspaper advertising and so on.

Internet marketing is a huge industry and it is very easy to make a full time job out of marketing just one web site, given the amount of work involved. There is no one set formula to follow, every site and every business will have its own personal marketing plan applied to it, but the overall key is consistency and measurement to ensure things are always happening and always being recorded.

List building is a cornerstone of any online business. You might have even heard or read that “the money is in the list.” First of all, let’s answer the question, “What exactly is a list?”

A list in Internet marketing terms is a database of your prospects and their contact information. If you have a product or promote products and I sign up for your list knowing that you might promote to me, then I’m a prospect that you can now market to repeatedly, with my permission, until I unsubscribe.

So why is building a list so important? Let’s say you start off as an affiliate marketer. You find a niche to promote to and you start working what you’ve learned into some traffic for your affiliate links.

Over a period of 30 days, imagine that you funnel 5,000 prospects from the Internet who are interested in your niche straight through your affiliate link to the product owner’s site.

To continue our example, let’s say that some of them even buy the product you are promoting. If you’ve made a 50% commission with a 2% conversion rate, for example, that means 2 out of every 100 people you sent bought the product, and your share was $26.00 (as an example). That would mean you earned a cool $2,600 this month – good for you!

But you’re leaving money on the table. Those 100 people who bought from your 5,000 clicks? They’re now on the product owner’s list, not yours. So what he’s going to do is send them more offers over the coming weeks.

After all, they are proven buyers. Over the next 30 days, those buyers fork over some more money for products that complement the original one they bought. That money goes to the product owner, not you – because you passed on building a list the first time around.

A better way to build an Internet marketing business is to start with a list from day one. Before you let a single person slip through your link without capturing their name and email address, have your system set up to build a list.

You can have unlimited lists for different niches using a simple tool, called an autoresponder. Every day you can log in and see how many people have signed up, and you can create automated messages that get sent out to help convert your list into more sales.

Why should the product owner get to cash in on that person again and again when you’re the one who brought him the customer in the first place? Stake your claim to each prospect and leverage your relationship with him or her for future sales and commissions.

Watch for another marketing tip real soon, and good luck with your online marketing efforts!

So many new marketers are reluctant to outsource, because they don’t like spending the extra money. They think it would be a waste of cash to pay someone else to perform tasks they can do themselves. The truth is, outsourcing can be a great way to grow your business quicker and easier than doing it yourself.

The top marketers you know today have teams to help them go from the conception of an idea to a product launch. But before they could afford a staff, many used freelancers to outsource the more mundane tasks while they worked on building their businesses.

Name just about any millionaire or billionaire in the world and chances are, that person has employees or outsourcers who take care of the vast majority of their work. It’s nearly impossible for one person to grow a business to the seven figure range or greater by themselves. It can be done, but it would require a level of dedication that very few individuals possess.

Try to think about outsourcing in terms of the money you deserve to be paid. What do you think your time is worth? Are you willing to go out and work at a job making minimum wage or a bit more?

If not, then you’re better off delegating your tasks to people who are willing to work for that. If your time is worth more than what it would cost you to hire someone else to do it, then it just makes sense to outsource the task.

Trying to do everything yourself can also prevent you from reaching success. The more you try to do by yourself, the less you’ll actually get done. Think about this. If you spent every single waking moment writing eBooks, you might be able to pull off one a month.

If you’re a very fast writer, you might be able to create a few more. But if you hired outsourcers, you could create a much greater number of them – and take the time to launch each one properly and get a hefty return on your investment, too!

The number of eBooks you could have would only be limited by the amount of money you had to pay the outsourcers.

You may have heard horror stories about finding reliable outsourcers. Yes, it can be hard to find someone who is reliable. But you don’t have to get ripped off.

You can give each outsourcer a small order first to test the quality of their work and the speed of delivery. The first few jobs might be smaller jobs. Once they’ve proven themselves a few times, you can start giving them larger jobs. Go from a pack of 5 one-page articles to a 50-page eBook.

Some outsourcers will ask for payment up front, because they need to protect themselves, too. That doesn’t necessarily mean you should discount them. Some very excellent outsourcers require payment up front to make sure they don’t have their hard work stolen.

Just make sure you always ask for references or take the time to examine their reputation and profiles first. If they have a lot of good testimonials from people you recognize, or they have a very good word-of-mouth reputation, then you’re probably safe working with them.

Even people with stellar reputations can let you down sometimes, but it’s less likely than it might be if you went with a total stranger with no standing in the freelance community. Remember, outsourcing does cost money, but as long as the work they do makes you a profit and saves you time, it’s worth it in the end.

Watch for another marketing tip real soon, and good luck with your online marketing efforts!

For many, success in the Internet marketing industry is a trial and error process. You have to learn as you go – on your own – soaking up information along the way. The first thing you need to know is what it means to be an Internet marketer, because it isn’t always clear to everyone.

Internet marketers can actually pick and choose from a whole host of options available to help them make money. Your opportunities are virtually endless, and can include one or more of the following:

Selling digital downloads, (information products like eBooks). Promoting other people’s products for a commission, (affiliate marketing). Selling on eBay or other auction sites. Running a membership site. Selling your online services (like writing, graphics, etc.). Promoting a website that sells dropshipped or wholesale items.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Being a newcomer to Internet marketing, you might be worried that you don’t have anything to sell. That’s okay – most people don’t start out with anything, and you never have to stock a tangible inventory if you don’t want to.

Internet marketing is great because gender or age can’t get in the way of your success. There are teenagers and even grandmothers who have launched successful online ventures who started out as budding Internet marketers just like you.

You don’t have to do anything unethical or shady to succeed at Internet marketing. You can build a respectable business with a solid reputation if you simply learn how to find out what people need and then give it to them… it’s as simple as that.

Watch for another marketing tip real soon, and good luck.

Try Listening & Watching this Post Content

AdSense can be a fantastic moneymaker. There are many people who make thousands of dollars per month through AdSense alone. Hearing this may get you excited, and you may already have dollar signs in your eyes. But don’t get your hopes up just yet.

Although you’ve probably heard about people who bring in five or six figures per month with AdSense, you need to keep one very important thing in mind. In order to make that kind of money with AdSense, you need to have a ton of traffic.

In fact, most people who make more than $100 per month with AdSense either have a very large website with thousands of visitors per day, or they have dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of smaller websites.

For most people, AdSense may not be worth the effort to create sites only for promoting it. AdSense only pays a few cents for each click, depending on the keyword you target (some pay a lot more) and those few cents are a lot smaller than they were just a few years ago.

A few years ago, some people were getting several dollars per click for many keywords. These days, $1 clicks are relatively rare in most niches. Most clicks seem to bring you under $0.50 now, and smaller niches may experience clicks of only around $0.10 (or even less.)

In order to make $10 per day, at $0.10 per click you would need 100 clicks. If your click through ratio were 5%, you would need 2,000 visitors to your site every single day just to earn $10 per day.

For sites with very little traffic, you would have to have a really fantastic click through ratio in order to earn decent money with AdSense – or, choose highly competitive keywords that pay a lot, but are harder to rank high for in the search engines.

Some sites just naturally have traffic that doesn’t buy much as far as paid information, but the visitors like to click through links to access free information. Webmasters who have sites that target the freebie-seeking demographic should test AdSense links to see which type performs best.

If you’re running a site that has an extremely general audience, AdSense might also be a good alternative. AdSense is usually pretty good at delivering targeted ads. You can create thousands of content pages with AdSense links, place the code in your blogs, and watch your monthly earnings rise as you create more content for your readers.

If your only goal is to make money without becoming a product owner, then consider creating a content-laden site that weaves affiliate links into the text and provides ample opportunities for clicks to AdSense links so that you can profit from the information you’re delivering.

Watch for another marketing tip real soon, and good luck with your online marketing efforts!

How do you know when you should keep working at something, and when you should just give up and call it a day?

Whenever you start a new project, it’s usually very exciting. It’s fun, it’s new, and it’s a lot easier to stick to. After awhile, however, you may start to lose interest in the project. When it starts to get boring, it gets a lot harder to stick with.

Many times, if you keep working at it, you’ll break through. But sometimes it won’t get any better, and even if you try and try, your situation might not really improve too much.

Many people might tell you to keep pushing no matter what – that it’s the only way to be successful. That’s not always true. Smart people know when to escape those dead ends and walk away. You shouldn’t always keep working at something with blind faith, because if it’s going nowhere, it could be preventing you from realizing success.

Yes, winners do quit, sometimes, but they quit when it makes sense to quit. Here are a few tips you can use to decide when you should quit and when you should keep pushing with a particular project.

First, ask how long you’ve been at it. If you’ve been going quite awhile, giving up might be a waste of the work you’ve already put in. Then again, if you’ve stuck to something for a very, very long time and you’re not seeing any results, it might not make sense to keep going.

Next, ask yourself if the potential rewards are worth it. If you’re really working hard to carve out a chunk of a very tiny niche, maybe it really isn’t worth it. Will that tiny niche ever be worth the amount of work you’re putting in?

On the other hand, if you’re already making some headway into a very large market, giving up might be a bit premature. Why give up on potential future earnings when you may already be halfway there?

Finally, ask yourself if it’s really worth it, not strictly in terms of money, but also in terms of quality of life. You’re the one putting in the time, effort, and money into a project. If the potential reward doesn’t seem worth the hassle anymore, maybe it really is time to give up.

By taking the time to consistently evaluate your progress and answer these questions with objectivity, it’s easier to stay on track to success. You might even benefit from asking friends and family to occasionally help you with these questions… their answers may surprise you.

Joint ventures (also known as JVs) are partnerships between two or more people, usually with the purpose of cross-promoting products.
There are various types of JVs, and what you offer your JV partners will depend on what you have to bring to the table, and what you’re looking for in return.

Most JVs are really affiliate relationships. You have a product, for example, and your JV partner has a forum, website, or email list. Your JV partner sends an email to his list about your product, or puts an ad on their website, blog, forum, etc.

Then you pay that JV partner a commission for the sales he generates. (It could also be the other way around, where the other person is the product owner.)

Although this type of relationship probably shouldn’t be called a “JV,” a lot of people do refer to it as such – probably because the product owner approached the JV partner to ask for a promotion instead of the product owner just deciding on his own to become an affiliate.

A more common form of true JV is when two parties with email lists or websites exchange ads. Usually, both parties have lists of comparable sizes in the same general niche, and each person agrees to send a mailing out to their list on the other person’s behalf. You send their message to your list, and they send your ad out to theirs.

Joint ventures are great, because they allow you to go far beyond what you could accomplish by simply promoting to your own list, or on your own site. If you have a list of 10,000 people, and 200 people buy the product you’re advertising, you have a 2% conversion rate.

If you could find ten other people with lists of 10,000 people to send out your ad, and you also experience a 2% conversion, you could make ten times the money you’d have made by sending out a message only to your list of subscribers.

Of course, in many niches, lists will often have duplicate subscribers. In the Internet marketing niche, many webmasters are on dozens of different lists. When a major launch goes out, you might get five or ten messages promoting the exact same product on the same day.

But no two mailing lists will consist solely of exact duplicates. Even in the same niche, people can attract different audiences. JVs are a great way of reaching more people than you’d otherwise be able to reach on your own.

If you’re interested in doing a JV with someone, you should be well prepared before you write to him or her with your proposal. You must bring something to the table that is of value to the other person. A JV can be a cross promotion or a bartering situation, where each of you offers up a service or skill to jointly create and launch a co-branded product.

Don’t expect to write to a well-known marketer with a huge list and get an instant JV when you don’t have a list and aren’t offering anything special. It could happen, just don’t expect it.

Occasionally, you can entice a JV partner with a very generous commission. In that case, be prepared to pay 70% or more in order to get JV partners, unless you’re already very well known in the niche or have a very large list of your own.

You’ll also probably have to JV with people who have lists that are similar to yours in size. Most people won’t be willing to JV with you if their list is over 10,000 people and yours is only 200… but it never hurts to ask.

Once you build up a large list of your own, you can start getting bigger JVs. Just don’t forget about what it was like when you were new and your list was smaller. You shouldn’t automatically pass over someone because his or her list is currently small.

If they’re offering you a good commission on a very high-quality product, it might be something you should consider. Plus, you’ll be developing a relationship that might be very valuable in the future!

Finding profitable niches can be difficult. Discovering one that isn’t extremely saturated can be intimidating when you’re just starting out as an Internet marketer. The key to finding niches that are profitable without a lot of competition is to drill down through a top-level niche to find profitable sub-niches with fewer competitors.

For example, let’s say you’re interested in creating a site that is in the beauty category. You can drill down into several different sub-categories. You could choose hair care, skin care, fitness, organic beauty, cosmetics, or any number of niches related to beauty.

But these categories are still too broad to be profitable with small numbers of visitors. You need to drill down further. Let’s say you decide to tackle the skin care demographic. Sub-categories of skin care might include eczema, acne, blackheads, wrinkles, age spots, psoriasis, and dry skin.

Now you have a list of smaller niches that you can begin to narrow down. Acne might still be too broad. You can drill down even more by targeting teenage acne, infant acne, and adult acne.

While you want to find niches that are narrow enough for you to dominate, you don’t want to choose niches that have too little traffic available. To figure this out, it may be helpful to spy on your competitors.

Go to your favorite search engine, like Google, and search for things like “how to get rid of acne.” Try to really get inside the mindset of your target prospect. However, if you drill down too much, like targeting “blackheads,” it may not turn out to be profitable.

You should verify that your possible niche gets a decent level of search volume by using a keyword tools like WordTracker or Market Samurai. When you search within the niche using Google, see if there are plenty of AdWords ads on the right sidebar of the screen.

If so, this means people are almost surely making money in this niche. The key is to take something that’s already working and make it better. Any time you can come up with an original slant on an idea that’s already churning profits online, you’re in a good position to achieve success.

For example, if you want to get into the online auctions niche, don’t go after a broad subject area like “eBay for beginners.”
Instead, target something more focused and unique such as “eBay Success for Baby Boomers.” Pick a specific target audience and then cater to their needs instead of approaching the masses with too broad an idea.
